The Upper Crust Italian Bistro is a family-owned Italian restaurant in the heart of downtown Washington, Pennsylvania. Located in the historic “House with the Round Corner” at 201 South Main Street, The Upper Crust is one of Washington’s most popular lunch and dinner destinations.

Our family’s vision was to create a warm, friendly, inviting atmosphere whereby we could delight every guest with a genuine, Italian, dining experience. Our goal is to insure that each and every guest who walks through our front door receives the professional, friendly and courteous service that they deserve and leaves at the end of their meal looking forward to their next visit.

The key to any good Italian dish is to use only the finest ingredients and to keep it simple. Here at The Upper Crust, our vegetables are delivered fresh; our sauces and dough are made daily. Our menu consists of a wide variety of fresh pastas and salads, delicious homemade soups, sandwiches made from the finest meats and cheeses piled high onto locally baked breads and rolls. Of course, our signature dish at The Upper Crust is our gourmet, wood-fired, brick-oven pizzas.

Our oven is an authentic Italian, wood-fired, brick-oven. In our opinion, wood-fired ovens produce the best pizza. The high heat given off by the open flame that can char a pizza crust to perfection and imparts a smoky flavor to the pizza.

Our crust is neither cracker-thin nor thick as bread. It has a veneer of crispness and soft and tender on the inside. A great pizza crust should have browned and blackened charred spots with a few raised blisters as they lend a bit of smoky flavor. Our sauce is also made in-house from vine-ripened tomatoes we import from Italy. Made slightly sweet, the sauce mixed with the smoky flavor of the crust and topped with our house blend of mozzarella, two types of hand-carved, provolone cheeses and finished with a sprinkle of Parmigianino Reggiano, creates a culinary experience that our customers call “The Perfect Pizza Pie”.

In addition to our sit-down restaurant, we also have a dessert case that is filled with homemade cheesecakes, tiramisu, and cannoli. We are open for lunch and dinner, where BYOB is welcome. There are no corking fees; just bring your bottle, some good company and relax at our Italian Bistro.
